Completed: 1991
Overview:
This project is an example of the expertise needed to bring
a project from the concept to the building stage through
the most challenging environment of community controversy.
Built in 1907, the historic structure was declared earthquake-unsafe
and closed in the mid-1980s. Controversy in the community
ensued on how to update the hotel. The development team
purchased the property in 1987, and won the right to replicate
the main building through a city-wide referendum. The Ritz-Carlton
Hotel Company was selected to operate the legendary property.
